BENEVOLENCE: Music for Relief

From day one, we envisioned The Michael Jackson Music Experiment (MJME) and our future entertainment undertakings not as ends unto themselves but as vehicles to serve the world in need. That vision has taken a small step toward actualization.

With assistance from American telecommunications giant Sprint Nextel, The Skykeepers Network/MJME and SocialVibe.com will raise money on behalf of Music for Relief. This nonprofit organization assists individuals affected adversely by natural disasters such as 2008’s Hurricanes Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike. In the span of less than 30 days, this quartet unleashed havoc upon the island nation of Haiti, as documented in this clip from Al Jazeera English.

Phoenix, bassist for music band Linkin Park and co-founder of Music for Relief, describes how the 2009 initiative between his organization and SocialVibe.com will help those Haitians ravaged by the storms.

Although the materialism encouraged by commercial advertising contravenes the spiritual values that we hold dear, we also feel it foolhardy to shun a mighty financial muscle like Sprint Nextel that can be harnessed for a greater good. Thus, if allowing our corporate partner a modicum of space on our site will shelter a displaced family or feed a soul crying out in hunger, be it in Haiti or elsewhere, we will happily and unrepentantly oblige.

REMEMBRANCE: The O2 Arena

NOTE: We posted this copy on the MJME MySpace page in early June, well before Mr. Jackson’s unexpected passing.
After some deliberation, we’ve opted to repost the copy in its original, unedited form here on our blog. We present it as a remembrance of the eagerness and the ancitipation with which we looked forward to Mr. Jackson’s return to live performance.
AEG Live, the promoter of Mr. Jackson’s planned THIS IS IT series, possesses over 100 hours of footage from rehearsals and other concert-related activities. Sources at AEG suggest that a documentary or a similar THIS IS IT project may be in the offing.
We love you, Michael Jackson. Please enjoy our blog entry 🙂

The massive white canopy with its protruding steel masts might suggest that an alien spaceship landed on the Greenwich Peninsula. But never fear, for this eccentric structure actually houses the expansive O2 entertainment district.

Covering a circumference of nearly a kilometer, the dome encompasses museum-style exhibition space, a live music club, an 11-screen cinema, a plethora of restaurants and bars, and, of course, The O2 Arena. It is at The O2 Arena where Mr. Jackson will take up residence during his This Is It concert series.

Opened in 2000 as the Millennium Dome, the complex was subsequently remodeled and reintroduced in 2007 as The O2.

Telecommunications giant O2 plc (now owned by Telefonica Europe plc) acquired naming rights to the complex and promoted the reopening with its “Do The O2” television campaign.

The O2’s crown jewel, the 23,000-seat O2 Arena, has showcased world-class events ranging from American sport contests (NBA, NHL) to top-flight concerts (Sir Elton John, Prince). 2012 will see The O2 Arena host gymnastics and basketball when the Summer Olympic Games arrive at London.

A news profile from 2007 highlights The O2 Arena’s multipurpose capabilities.

Tough-talking Rodents! “Beat It” w/the Chipmunks

Let’s get ready to rumble! The loveable and venerable Chipmunks look to take down a group of toughs at the local roller rink.
Yes, these rodents act more goofy than gangster, and those herky-jerky moves could benefit from Mr. Jackson’s dance-floor polish. But hey, it’s fun!
